Reformer Pilates

While the name might be daunting, the workout and results are definitely not. In private or small-group sessions, instructors guide clients through 1-hour, ever-varied, exercise routines that strengthen the core and muscles to stabilize the spine and joints. Tension from springs is used to target different muscle groups. All excercises are designed to fire the abdominal muscles. The Reformer can address virtually every part of the body in exercises appropriate for everyone, no matter  their current fitness level.  From athletes looking to enhance their performance to “regular folks” dealing with musculoskeletal issues, Pilates on the Reformer can greatly improve strength, mobility, and overall fitness level.

Mat Pilates

A core-strengthening exercise class. At PilatesPlus, Teresa and Rachel combine the classical Pilates exercises (performed on a mat on the floor) with the latest advances in movement science. The class pace is moderate with careful instruction so you are able to develop a deeper understanding of the core muscle work while gaining strength & mobility. Props intensify  the work or offer modifications to suit an individual’s particular needs.

Barre Fitness

Barre Fitness is a conditioning workout that combines ‘barre’ (the handrail used in Ballet classes) exercises with the core work and alignment of Pilates. The Barre is used for balance while other props (such as light hand weights, bands, and rings) are used for strengthening and stretching. Uptempo, upbeat music & movements also bring in a cardio element to class. Our playlist changes weekly and ranges from jazzy Electronica to fabulous Disco classics, with selections often borrowed from BeMoved®.

Vinyasa and Gentle Yoga

Stretching, strengthening, relaxing yoga practices. Include meditation and breath work. The Gentle class is based on the Dharma Mittra series and is appropriate for almost all fitness levels. Vinysas is a bit more vigourous, flowing the movements together with the breath. The emphasis is on good alignment and tailoring the postures to your body. The aim of both is to find greater ease in body and mind, to relieve stiffness and still the mind in a long, guided savasana.
